RSorder OSRS: The First Essential Upgrade

The early game provides a simple but solid foundation. Once you reach level 40 Ranged, you can equip green dragonhide armor, including the body, chaps, and vambraces. Pair this with a coif, a maple shortbow, and adamant arrows, and you'll have a reliable setup for RuneScape gold early training. Adding an amulet of power rounds out the build with balanced stats.

If you're playing a low-defense or restricted account, you can swap the dragonhide body for a standard leather body, which requires only level 1 Defense. This setup is inexpensive and efficient, making it perfect for progressing through free-to-play content before transitioning into members.

The First Essential Upgrade: Ava's Devices

Once you unlock membership, your first priority should be completing the Animal Magnetism quest. This grants access to Ava's devices-either the attractor or accumulator, depending on your Ranged level. These cape-slot items automatically retrieve ammunition, saving a significant amount of money over time.

The accumulator, in particular, retrieves most of your fired ammo, making it one of the most important early upgrades. It's hard to overstate how valuable this is for long-term training and bossing efficiency.

Early Members Gear Upgrades

After securing Ava's device, you can quickly upgrade your gear with several affordable improvements. Blue dragonhide becomes available at level 50 Ranged and offers better stats than green. The magic shortbow is another major upgrade, providing improved accuracy and a useful special attack. Imbuing it further enhances its performance by reducing special attack cost and allowing stronger arrows.

The amulet of glory is a strong upgrade from the amulet of power, offering better stats and useful teleports. Small additions like snakeskin boots and bandanas provide minor boosts, but they're cheap and worth picking up. For crossbow users, the Book of Law is a great off-hand option, offering ranged accuracy and prayer bonuses.

Understanding Weapon Types

Ranged combat splits into two main weapon categories that you'll use throughout your progression. Fast weapons like shortbows and blowpipes excel at close-range DPS and are ideal for general training and low-defense enemies. On the other hand, crossbows and heavy bows are slower but hit harder and allow the use of shields, making them better for bossing and high-defense targets.

A key early upgrade is the rune crossbow, which introduces crossbow gameplay. When paired with enchanted ruby bolts, it becomes extremely effective for bossing due to its ability to deal percentage-based damage based on the target's remaining health.

Mid-Game Gear Improvements

As your Ranged level increases, you'll gain access to stronger armor tiers. Red dragonhide at level 60 and black dragonhide at level 70 provide steady upgrades in accuracy. However, many players overlook blessed dragonhide sets. These offer the same offensive stats as black dragonhide but include improved defenses and prayer bonuses, making them excellent for extended trips.

The dragon crossbow is another important upgrade, allowing the use of powerful dragon bolts. These bolts significantly increase your damage potential, especially when using enchanted effects. At this stage, completing Recipe for Disaster to unlock Barrows Gloves is also highly recommended, as they provide strong bonuses across all combat styles.

Entering the High-Level Range Meta

Once you have more gold to OSRS GP for sale invest, the toxic blowpipe becomes one of the most impactful upgrades in the game. This weapon attacks extremely quickly and excels against low-defense enemies, making it ideal for Slayer and general PvM. While it requires ongoing costs for scales and darts, its damage output makes it well worth the investment.
