MMOEXP D2R:Diablo II: Resurrected Act II Beginner’s Walkthrough
Diablo II: Resurrected Act II, “The Secret of the Vizjerei,” shifts the adventure from the green forests of Khanduras to D2R Ladder Items the harsh deserts of Aranoch. Based in the bustling port city of Lut Gholein, this act introduces sand maggots, mummies, and ancient tombs. It typically takes players from level 18 to around 25–30. The act revolves around assembling the Horadric Staff and confronting the ancient evil buried beneath the desert. Here is a complete quest-by-quest walkthrough.
Arrival and Early Quests
Upon arriving from Act I via Warriv’s caravan, explore Lut Gholein. Speak to all NPCs: Greiz (mercenaries), Fara (healer and blacksmith), Lysander (potions), Drognan (magic), Elzix (gambling/stash), and Atma (first quest).
Quest 1: Radament’s Lair (Atma)
Enter the Sewers beneath the city (entrance near the docks). Clear three levels of undead and Radament on Level 3. He is a powerful mummy who revives minions and deals poison damage. Use fire or crushing blow. Reward: +1 skill point from Atma and permanent +10% resistance to all from Fara. This is excellent early progression.
Quest 2: The Horadric Staff (Main quest chain)
Drognan tasks you with finding the Staff. This multi-step quest is the core of Act II:
Find the Horadric Cube in the Halls of the Dead (Level 3) in the Dry Hills.
Locate the Staff of Kings in Maggot Lair Level 3 (Far Oasis → Lost City).
Recover the Amulet of the Viper from Claw Viper Temple Level 2 (Lost City area).
Combine the Staff, Amulet, and Cube in the Horadric Cube to create the Horadric Staff.
Mid-Act Challenges
Quest 3: Tainted Sun (Drognan)
In the Lost City, find the Claw Viper Temple. The altar inside has darkened the sun, making the desert darker and spawning more monsters. Defeat the Claw Vipers and smash the altar to restore daylight.
Quest 4: The Arcane Sanctuary (Drognan)
Return to Lut Gholein and access the hidden Arcane Sanctuary via the palace cellar. This floating, maze-like dimension is full of lightning-immune demons and specters. Navigate carefully (map layout is randomized) to find the waypoint and the portal to the Summoner.
Quest 5: The Summoner
Defeat The Summoner (a corrupted Horadrim) in the Arcane Sanctuary. He uses powerful fire and cold spells and teleports. Kill him to open the red portal to the Canyon of the Magi.
Final Quest: The Seven Tombs
Quest 6: The Seven Tombs (Jerhyn / Drognan)
Enter the Canyon of the Magi and explore the seven tombs. Only one contains the true path—look for the correct symbol on the map or trial-and-error. Descend to Tal Rasha’s Chamber.
Duriel, the Lord of Pain, waits inside. This brutal boss fight is notorious for its difficulty spike. Duriel is extremely fast, deals massive cold and physical damage, and has a Holy Freeze aura.
Fight Tips: Stack cold resistance (use Thawing Potions), bring plenty of healing potions, use a mercenary as a meat shield, and focus on hit-and-run or burst damage. Crushing Blow weapons help significantly. After victory, Tyrael appears and opens the way to Act III.
General Act II Tips
Hire a Desert Mercenary (Defender or Combatant) from Greiz for tanking and extra damage.
Activate every waypoint, especially in the desert areas.
Farm the Ancient Tunnels (hidden in Lost City) for great early loot.
Stock antidotes, thawing potions, and town portal scrolls.
Use the Horadric Cube for transmutes, repairs, and item identification.
Act II rewards thorough exploration with powerful runes, uniques, and the satisfaction of completing the Horadric Staff. Once Duriel falls, head through the portal to buy D2R Runes Kurast and the jungles of Act III. With Resurrected’s improved visuals, lighting, and controls, the desert never looked or felt better.
