Void Interactive, the studio behind Ready or Not, has acknowledged a security breach that occurred in March, involving the theft of source code.

The incident was initially brought to light by reports indicating that over 4TB of data was compromised by a ransom group.

This stolen information reportedly included the game's source code, console builds, and images from PlayStation 4 test kits.

Despite the scale of the breach, the company has clarified that no player data or staff information was accessed or taken.

The vulnerability was linked to an on-premises version of TeamCity, which the hackers exploited to gain entry.

Void Interactive reassures that their core development assets and proprietary code have remained secure throughout this event.

Void Interactive Hacked

Void Interactive confirmed it was hacked in March, saying the intrusion was confined to their TeamCity services interface.

Investigators found that attackers captured screenshots showing high-level project and company information, but the studio insists no sensitive or user-related data was exposed.

The breach appears not to have impacted players directly, though the company is continuing its internal review to ensure no additional systems were affected.

Ready or Not only reached full release in December 2023, following a rocky pre-release period that included a break with original publisher Team17 and a brief removal from Steam.

The game has drawn controversy for including levels based on real-world mass shootings — notably a school shooting scenario and a nightclub level added on the anniversary of the 2016 Pulse nightclub attack in Florida.

Despite that, Ready or Not achieved notable commercial success and a strong Steam reception, with over 134,000 user reviews registering as "Very Positive."

If you play the game, it’s still wise to reset passwords and enable two-factor authentication as a precaution, even though developers report no player data was taken.

I’ve contacted Void Interactive for details on how the incident might affect future development and will provide updates if they respond.

Correction: earlier reporting misidentified the affected services as cloud TeamCity; TeamCity later clarified the vulnerabilities were present in the on-premises TeamCity installation.
